The Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port will present the project of the "Makhachkala" Special Economic Zone at the Caucasian Investment Forum. According to Jamal Aliyev, the port's CEO, the anchor facility of the zone will be a dry port, and a 310-hectare plot has already been allocated for its placement. The first five residents, including those from other regions, have already confirmed their interest.
The zone will have an industrial and logistics profile and will offer residents tax and customs preferences. According to Aliyev, there is a severe shortage of such sites in the Caucasus, and the Makhachkala SEZ should fill this gap. The project is planned to be launched this year – in a "real format," not just on paper.
The project builds upon the ongoing modernization of the port. Earlier, it was reported that the Makhachkala Port is building the largest grain terminal in the Caspian Sea with a transshipment capacity of 1.5 million tons and simultaneous storage of 100 thousand tons. Equipment with artificial intelligence elements will be supplied by the Chinese Famsun Group. Investments in port development until 2028 are estimated at no less than 5 billion rubles. The creation of the SEZ adds a logistics hub for cargo processing and storage, transforming the port from a transshipment point into an industrial cluster.
