PD-8 Engine Plant Speeds Up Parts Quality Control by 30 Times

ODK-Saturn Implements Measurement System, Saving Over 70,000 Hours

A new digital system for selecting measuring tools to control the quality of aircraft engine parts has been implemented at the ODK-Saturn enterprise in Rybinsk. It has accelerated work by 30 times.

Previously, it took up to 5 minutes to select a suitable measuring instrument, but now the system can handle it in 10 seconds, according to Evgeny Alekseev, Director of Digital Transformation at ODK-Saturn. This saves more than 70,000 working hours per year.

Technologists, metrology experts, and employees of control and verification points can pay more attention to the design of technological processes and problem-solving.

The program automatically determines the required type of instrument, characteristics, and measurement conditions — from tolerances to temperature regimes. This uses the company's own database of more than 7,000 parameters.

The system is already used by more than 500 employees. Thanks to its architecture, the solution can be deployed at any enterprise in one day.

ODK-Saturn is a key manufacturer of PD-8 engines for the import-substituted "Superjet." Certification of the power plant is expected in April of this year.
