A new way to extinguish forest fires with powder bombs dropped by an unmanned aerial vehicle is being developed in Russia. This was announced by Alexey Panov, head of the FBU Avialesokhrana (an organization that carries out fire control of the forest from the air).
Bombs have been developed. Unfortunately, there are still no drones that will use them.
According to him, other countries are already using drones with fire extinguishing powder. Relevant developments are underway in Russia, but "the efficiency is not yet high," Panov summarized.
Currently, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation uses special aviation equipment to extinguish large fires — Ka-32A, Mi-8T, Mi-26T helicopters equipped with water drain devices. Russian rescuers plan to take into account the experience of Chinese colleagues who are developing UAVs to fight fire. In parallel, robots are being developed to extinguish fires in hard-to-reach places.
