A ban on the use of the Internet for children under 14 should be introduced in Russia - this proposal was voiced to RT by Nina Ostanina, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Paternity, Motherhood and Childhood Issues.
According to the parliamentarian, young Russians should only receive the right to access the network after obtaining a passport. She also noted that parents should be advised to prohibit children from using gadgets.
In this way, we will not only preserve the physical and mental health of children, but also protect them from fraud.
The deputy stressed that she opposes the involvement of children in social networks and other Internet resources. According to her, replacing foreign messengers with Russian ones will not solve the problem with fraudsters and criminal communities. As an argument, she recalled that criminal liability in Russia begins at the age of 14 - from the same age, according to her logic, the right to access the Internet should also appear.
The discussion about restricting children's access to the Internet is gaining momentum in the State Duma and among regional authorities. Initiatives range from a complete ban up to 14 years to night restrictions and the creation of special "children's" social networks. The main arguments of supporters are protection against fraudsters, destructive content and preservation of mental health. However, the issue of technical implementation of such measures, especially age identification of users, remains open.
