Now official: Russia will start building "Superjets" in India

OAK signed an agreement with HAL on the joint production of the SJ-100

United Aircraft Corporation (OAK, part of Rostec) has concluded a contract with the Indian state corporation Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) on joint activities, regulating cooperation in the production of the Superjet 100 aircraft in the republic. The formal signing ceremony took place on January 28 on the sidelines of the international aviation exhibition Wings India.

The timeline for the start of aircraft production is unknown. In the autumn of 2025, OAK and HAL signed a memorandum on the intention to build airliners, but that document in fact did not bind either side to anything.

Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervyi Tekhnicheskii" that the production of "Superjets" in India is a very distant prospect. It will take the republic at least five years to master the technology; workshops must be created, personnel found, and machine tools sourced.

It should be noted that OAK plans to begin deliveries of import-substituted SJ-100 aircraft with PD-8 engines to Russian airlines only in 2026. At the same time, there is still no information even on the timeline for completing certification.
