Arctic Center for Marine Engineering Development to Open in Murmansk

Scientists and engineers will engage in ship repair, reverse engineering, and testing of marine drones in Arctic conditions

The Arctic Center for Marine Engineering Development (ACMED) of the Murmansk Arctic University (MAU) will open in Murmansk. This is a new scientific and engineering cluster where specialists and engineers will work, including on the territory of a ship repair plant. This was announced by Anton Yurmanov, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities at MAU.

According to him, the center is being created jointly with the industrial partner S7 and will be engaged in a wide range of tasks, from reverse engineering to prototyping new marine technologies. Already in 2026, the team plans to implement several large orders. One of the plant's workshops has been provided for the center's work, where modern equipment has been installed with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: a five-axis processing machine and 3D printers for the production of complex parts.

The center's staff consists of ten engineers and designers who have undergone additional training. Students and graduate students will also be able to work on its base, conducting their own research and gaining practical experience. In addition, it is planned to create test sites for testing surface and underwater drones in Arctic conditions.

Yurmanov noted that the project has not only scientific but also strategic importance for the region: it contributes to the development of shipbuilding, ship repair, and marine technologies in the Far North.
