Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree approving the Road Safety Strategy. It is designed to last until 2036.
The strategy aims to update the vehicle fleet and improve road infrastructure. Its main goal is to reduce the number of victims on the country's roads.
The main directions of the strategy include updating the vehicle fleet, monitoring the technical condition of transport, improving the literacy of motorists, modernizing road infrastructure, analyzing the circumstances of accidents, improving the video surveillance system, and optimizing the work of the traffic police.
The first stage of the strategy is designed to last until 2030. Over the next six months, the government should develop a plan of specific measures to implement the strategy with a mandatory deadline of May 2026.
It was reported that during the discussion of the Strategy, a large number of right-hand drive cars were named as a separate risk factor. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the need for changes in their admission to operation. The final document of the Strategy does not mention the right-hand drive.
