The new Russian MC-21 aircraft, in terms of handling characteristics, resembles a Su-27 fighter jet with fully fueled fuel tanks. This was stated by test pilot Oleg Mutovin.
According to him, he first experienced flying the airliner in 2017. Apparently, this refers to the previous version of the MC-21 with Western onboard systems.
Using the MC-21 as an example, I can say that civilian and military aircraft are very different. Because when I made my first flight on the MC-21, it was 2017, my first impression of manually piloting this aircraft was that it was a Su-27 with a full load of fuel. That is, it is so pleasant, so responsive in control, so pleasant to fly.
Mutovin recalled that the MC-21 uses a stick for control, not a yoke, as on the Yak-40. Therefore, when piloting, there is no particular difference for the pilot whether it is a civilian or military aircraft.
The big difference is in the procedures. That is, civil aviation still flies a little differently. There are certain requirements for maintaining the flight regime, especially in areas with heavy air traffic. This, of course, was all new, but for this we underwent additional training, then we were tested in flights.
Mutovin also revealed a secret about the tests of the MC-21 onboard systems in the most severe conditions.
