«It's easier to design a new liner»: The Il-96 with PD-35 engines was denied existence

Aviation expert Panteleev: to justify investments in the project, an external sales market is needed

The idea of making the Il-96 aircraft twin-engine with PD-35 engines is utopian, since significant changes to the design of the vessel will be required. This was stated by aviation expert Oleg Panteleev.

According to him, it is easier to design a new liner, in the design of which composite materials will be more widely used, and new systems and units will appear.

But this is a very costly story. In order to justify investments in the project, the future aircraft needs an external sales market. Russia does not need many wide-body liners for domestic passenger airlines.
Oleg Panteleev, aviation expert

An industry specialist believes that the production rate of the Il-96 of up to 3-4 units per year is quite capable of covering Russia's needs for the next 10-15 years, while the previously imported "foreign cars" remain "on the wing".

If airlines do not make a choice in favor of importing long-range liners, in the next decade it will be necessary to seriously think about creating such a machine.
