Three Foreign Systems Named in New MC-21-310 Aircraft: Import Substitution Not Complete

The aircraft flies with foreign drives, brakes, and generators

The new Russian MC-21-310 aircraft still has components from unfriendly countries. This was announced by the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec), Vadim Badeha.

The prototype of the medium-range MC-21 aircraft first took to the skies from the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of PJSC "Yakovlev" on April 29.

Of the foreign components, only three non-essential systems remain — drives, brakes, and generators. Russian systems simply did not have time to be installed on this particular aircraft; in other aircraft, even these systems will be domestic.
Vadim Badeha, head of UAC

The head of UAC added that the corporation is setting itself the task of ensuring that the cost and себестоимость of import-substituted aircraft is efficient for operation and comparable to the cost of foreign analogues.

This cannot be done quickly and directly, also for understandable reasons, because when we talk about the first batches, they are always more expensive. And the reasons why we are more expensive are all clear — the production run is still small, the interest rate, investments in the creation of completely new systems and units.
