Passenger Association proposes changing the tram scheme to improve transport services

A proposal to reduce the number of tram routes is being discussed in Yekaterinburg. The initiative was put forward by the Passenger Association, which has developed a new tram traffic scheme focused on convenient transfers.

A transport analyst from the Association named Yuri said that a similar scheme was proposed back in 2017 by the organization "City.PRO", but it was not accepted then. Now, after a six-month analysis of passenger traffic and routes, the Association proposes to reduce the number of tram routes from 24 to 18.

According to Yuri, the new scheme assumes that trams should be the main mode of transport, which will reduce traffic intervals. This is especially important in winter, when waiting for a tram can take up to 50 minutes.

Despite possible discontent among residents, the authors are confident that the changes will improve the operation of public transport. Yuri emphasized the need to introduce free transfers so that passengers can quickly and conveniently get to different parts of the city.

The initiative is part of a broader transport reform in Yekaterinburg, in which carriers are switching to gross contracts. Thus, revenue from tickets goes to the city budget, and transport companies are paid for the kilometers traveled, which should increase the frequency of flights and improve the quality of service.
