Alloys for the power plant were developed at UEC-Saturn and VIAM

The latest heat-resistant materials for the PD-8 aircraft engine were developed by specialists from UEC-Saturn and the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM). This was reported by the United Engine Corporation.

The company emphasized that the PD-8 is a completely domestic development that uses new materials and advanced technologies.

Russian alloys for PD-8 were developed by a team of authors, which included employees of UEC-Saturn and VIAM. In the future, these developments can be used in the development of new gas turbine engines.

The working and nozzle blades of the low and high pressure turbines of the PD-8 are made of the latest domestic heat-resistant alloys. Thanks to this, the blades are able to withstand particularly high loads, which made it possible to implement the advanced characteristics incorporated by the designers into the new aircraft engine.

Earlier it became known that the import-substituted Superjet SJ-100 with PD-8 will perform more than 130 certification flights.
