The improved "Angara" will place spacecraft into geostationary and geotransfer orbits

In the workshops of the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, which is part of the Roscosmos State Corporation, large-scale work is underway to create an improved Angara-A5M heavy-class launch vehicle. Specialists are engaged in the production of components for the first two flight models of the Angara, as well as the creation of samples for testing and testing new rocket production technologies.

Roscosmos reported that the update of the launch vehicle is necessary to improve the energy parameters of the Angara-A5 and its ability to put heavy spacecraft, modules of the Russian Orbital Station, and manned spacecraft into orbit.

This is achieved by installing new RD-191M engines with increased thrust and modern onboard equipment. New technologies are also used in the production of the main structural elements, which reduces weight compared to the basic version of the Angara-A5.

The company's production personnel, in close cooperation with designers and technologists, continue to refine design and technological documentation, and are increasing procurement and mechanical assembly production. The full cycle of manufacturing shell panels for the tanks of the first Angara-A5M launch vehicle has already been mastered.

In 2025, the process of assembling and welding the Angara-A5M will begin. The first launch of the launch vehicle with the new spacecraft will simulate an abnormal situation.

The test launch program is aimed at confirming the rescue of the manned spacecraft crew in the event of abnormal situations with the launch vehicle in the zone of maximum dynamic pressure.

After the spacecraft intended for accommodating cosmonauts separates from the launch vehicle, the emergency rescue system must continue to operate. This is necessary so that the launch vehicle can deliver the separating stages of the first stage to the designated locations.

The Angara-A5M launch vehicle will be used to transport cargo during the construction and operation of the Russian Orbital Station. Roscosmos emphasized that it will also be able to put heavy-class spacecraft into geostationary and geotransfer orbits, which will significantly expand the potential of the Russian space industry.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia is actively preparing for new launches of the Angara family of launch vehicles. The production of components has already begun for the modernized launch vehicle called Angara-A5M. Its predecessor, the Russian Angara-A5 heavy launch vehicle, launched from Vostochny in April.
