Russia is ready to purchase foreign aircraft if demand for air travel in the country increases. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev in an interview with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, answering a question about how Russia will build relations with Boeing and Airbus companies that have left the country if they return.
Well, you know, it's no use being offended. We have a domestic industry that produces fairly high-quality modern aircraft - the MC-21, Sukhoi Superjet. We already have the ability to produce aircraft ourselves. Another thing is, even now in these conditions we are going beyond 100 million passengers, if Russians are ready to fly more, if there is such a demand, and there is, well, of course, we can buy if our industry does not have time to do it.
As of September 2024, Russian airlines had 762 passenger aircraft of foreign manufacture on their balance sheets. These included 287 Airbus aircraft and 267 Boeing aircraft.
