Russia Tests Mind-Controlled GAZelle for the First Time

Neurointerface was developed in Russia

Ulyanovsk State Technical University and Neiry laboratories have tested a neurointerface for controlling a GAZelle car with the power of thought. This is the first such experiment in Russia.

The device used for the test was developed by Neiry. It recorded electroencephalogram readings of the brain, tracked data based on pulse oximetry, and also monitored head movement. The neurointerface utilized the driver's brainwave activity, as well as an accelerometer sensor.

The GAZelle was controlled using a computer to which the neurointerface was connected. The device even took into account the driver's body position. If the person was focused on the road, the car would increase speed; if the driver was distracted from the road, the speed would decrease. If the driver controlling the car with the power of thought were to fall asleep, the computer would give a command and the GAZelle would stop.

The test was successful on a closed territory. This is the first such experiment in Russia. In the future, neurointerfaces may be used to prevent accidents and improve safety.
