Defence news: Россия пытается оживить вялое производство истребителей Су-57

The Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the production of 76 aircraft by the end of 2027

The aviation plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, which is key to the creation of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters, has expanded its production capacity. This is expected to speed up the pace of aircraft deliveries. This is according to Defence News in the article "Russia trying to revive sluggish Su-57 fighter production."

According to Defence news, Rostec, UAC and the aviation plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur are under sanctions from the US, the European Union, Great Britain, Switzerland and other countries. This forces Russian companies to look for electronic equipment and components in Asia or import them illegally.

Russia has only a small number of Su-57 aircraft. A contract for the production of 76 aircraft by the end of 2027 was signed by the Ministry of Defense at the Army-2019 forum, with Komsomolsk-on-Amur being the main production site.

At the same time, it turned out that the existing production site was not enough to produce the planned volume of combat aircraft. As a result, according to aviation expert Michael Jerdev, the Russian Aerospace Forces received no more than a third of the Su-57s from the number specified in the contract. It is known that in 2022, the Russian Aerospace Forces were supposed to receive 10 fighters, and in 2023 - 11. Jerdev calls the supply of avionics and the new engine "Product 30" a "bottleneck".

Prior to this, the Su-57 was equipped with the previous generation AL-41F-1 engine. In December 2023, Rostec announced that some of the aircraft delivered in 2024 would receive a new engine.

Earlier, the head of UAC, Yuli Slusar, stated that the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant had reached a rhythmic pace of aircraft production as part of the 2024 program. The factory workers are fulfilling their obligations to supply aircraft on time, including working on the creation of new batches of serial Su-35 and Su-57 fighters.
