The new equipment reduces the manufacturing time of body parts and ensures high quality of the welded joint. This installation at the Rybinsk-based "ODK-Saturn" was designed and assembled by one of the Tomsk enterprises commissioned by UEC.
The new equipment allows welding of body parts with a wall thickness of up to 100 mm and a weight of up to 10 tons. The welding process is controlled by one welder-operator. A single control panel for both the power unit and the electromechanical complex allows the specialist to move between the illuminators for visual inspection, and the presence of three high-definition video cameras ensures monitoring of the entire process and inspection of the weld after welding.
In addition to the Russian GTD-110M turbine, capable of operating in the power range from 118 MW to 495 MW and higher, the electron-beam welding unit will also be used for the production of parts for other domestic large gas turbine engines. Previously, a Russian five-axis machine for laser complex contour cutting, piercing of small holes, and welding of gas turbine engine parts was already introduced at this enterprise.
It is known that "ODK-Saturn" became the base for the construction of a new complex for the assembly of GTD-110M. According to UEC, thanks to this complex, Russia will produce annually up to four of these power plants from 2028.
