Тысячи километров дорог и рельсов, новые станции метро, аэропорты - вот как изменился транспорт России за пять лет

From the BCL and MCD to the M-12, M-11 Highways and the Crimean Bridge

Moscow is hosting the Forum of National Achievements in the field of transport, organized by the Ministry of Transport as part of the "Russia" exhibition-forum at VDNH. The head of the ministry, Vitaly Savelyev, spoke about how Russia has developed the transport sector from 2018 to 2023, and continues to do so in 2024.

Everything that flies, drives, and floats in Russia and transports tens of millions of passengers annually has been taken into account<br>

During this time, Russia also established its own Transport Workers' Day - celebrated on November 20. And for those involved in the development of transport science and technology, the Vladimir Uzlov Prize was created, named after the founder of domestic railway station and transport hub design.

The presentation covered not only road management, bridges, and railway tracks, but also rail transport, air transport, sea, road, urban transport, and their digitalization.

Thousands of kilometers of roads and rails, new metro stations, airports - this is how Russia's transport system has changed in five years. "Pervy Tehnicheskiy" has selected key moments from the changes shown in the presentation.

Civil Aviation

Since 2018, thirty-three aerodrome infrastructure facilities have appeared in Russia - from new terminals in Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo to facilities in Novosibirsk, Saransk, Simferopol, and Novy Urengoy. Runways were also actively built: nineteen of them were put into operation.

The Russian aviation industry received a comprehensive development program until 2030, the Unified Air Traffic Management System in Russia was modernized, and the Far East acquired a unified airline, Aurora. In addition, the country has the largest provider in Eastern Europe for the maintenance and repair of aircraft, A-TECHNICS.

Railways

Moscow was relieved by the completed and commissioned Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro during these five years. The tunnels of the Moscow BCL even became record holders in Russia in terms of length - we are talking about double-track tunnels, part of which runs under water.

In addition, the metropolis was penetrated and connected to the nearest Moscow region by ground metro lines - Moscow Central Diameters, MCD. You can drive diagonally through the city in less than an hour.

Also, during these five years, the Kerak Tunnel on the Trans-Baikal Railway and the Second Baikal Tunnel on the BAM were completed and put into operation. The North and the Far East have become more accessible, as has the neighboring Belarusian capital.

Sea and Inland Water Transport

Russia has also made progress in this direction. The first electric ferry with autonomous navigation "General Chernyakhovsky" and its "brother" "Marshal Rokossovsky" began to operate.

The world's most powerful non-nuclear icebreaker, Viktor Chernomyrdin, was put into operation, and the Arctic tanker-gas carrier Christophe de Margerie carried its cargo in January in the eastern direction of the Northern Sea Route.

New icebreakers, container ships, crab catchers and ships are also being actively built, laid down and designed. USC will build almost 600 ships for Russia by the end of 2035.

Road Management

The "Safe Quality Roads" national project has already been launched and is being implemented. It includes the transition to eco-transport and the renewal of the eco-park of vehicles - electric buses, trams, electric trains.

Part of the project is the development of intelligent transport systems. ITS have been installed in agglomerations with a population of more than 300 thousand people since 2020. ITS are already in more than 50 Russian cities in 51 subjects of Russia and make roads more comfortable.

New high-speed highways, large interchanges, bypass roads, and bridges are being actively built. The largest of them is the 19-kilometer Crimean Bridge, which is also the longest bridge in all of Russia.

Russian Border and Transportation

Finally, the Russian border was also modernized - more than 380 checkpoints were installed. Russia is already testing new digital portal inspection and examination complexes on the border with China, there is an electronic queue system and minimal contact with customs officers.

Electronic navigation seals have been introduced to track goods that enter the country or transit through it. However, this innovation is valid in all EAEU countries, not just in Russia. However, Russia also has its own internal method of control - through the state system of electronic transportation documents.

What's next?

The Russian government has already approved a comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the main infrastructure. A transport strategy until 2030 with a forecast until 2035 has also been adopted. A new concept for training personnel for the industry until 2035 has also been approved.
