A workshop for assembling the "Baikal" aircraft is being built in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, with production scheduled to begin in the coming years, according to the Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexey Chekunkov. The new aircraft will replace the outdated An-2.
The assembly of the aircraft will be entrusted to the Ural company "UZGA". The unified Far Eastern airline "Aurora" has signed a contract with the enterprise for the supply of aircraft until 2030.
According to Chekunkov, the cost of the "Baikal" will depend on the configuration. VEB.rf has optimized the price of the aircraft by increasing the lease term and, accordingly, reducing the lease payment.
No matter what the cost of the aircraft is, it should not affect the fares
Previously, the minister said that the "Baikal" would cost more than 200 million rubles. It is expected that the new aircraft will join the "Aurora" fleet between 2026 and 2030. This includes passenger, transport configurations, as well as aircraft for forest protection work.
It was previously reported that the production site in Komsomolsk-on-Amur for the assembly of the "Baikal" aircraft is under construction around the clock.
