The Tu-214 has already been certified and is in operation, but increasing its production is hampered by the manufacturing infrastructure. Honored Pilot of the USSR Oleg Smirnov explained to “Pervy Tekhnichesky” why a certified aircraft is still difficult to quickly bring to mass production.
According to him, the Kazan Aircraft Plant cannot independently produce all the necessary elements.
If it's a serial aircraft, it needs millions of components. You can't make them on the fly. They need to be made at a modern factory with modern equipment.
Smirnov believes that restoring this chain is one of the main tasks of the aviation industry. According to him, an aircraft can be structurally ready and certified, but without stable suppliers, it is difficult to increase the assembly rate.
Smirnov emphasized that a similar problem applies to other Russian programs. The wing, fuselage, avionics, and other systems are made by different enterprises, so increasing aircraft production requires a corresponding increase in component production.
