Kazan Aircraft Plant (KAZ) is reconfiguring Tu-214 production to manufacture 20 aircraft per year. To achieve this, a model of a new final assembly shop was developed, and the future production organization was tested on it.
The project envisages a transition to a flow assembly line for the Tu-214. More than 40 employees from various departments of the enterprise worked on the new scheme. They identified bottlenecks in the current production process and prepared a redesign of the aggregate and final assembly shop.
The main task, as specified by OAK, is to make the movement of the aircraft along the production line more rhythmic and to reduce time losses between individual operations. The developed model has already been approved and endorsed by the KAZ management.
Aviation expert Andrey Velichko stated that the Tu-214 will be morally obsolete by 2026 due to its aluminum wings and early-generation engines. However, the airliner will still be useful for domestic transportation.
