By the end of 2026, Kazan Aircraft Plant will produce at least four Tu-214 airliners, three of which will be built in the remaining four months. This forecast was made by Oleg Korobchenko, Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, at a meeting with the head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov.
According to him, the modernization of KAZ continues. The Tu-214 will be sent specifically to “special customers,” but who exactly is not disclosed. So far, in 2026, the plant has built only one aircraft.
However, economist Dmitry Baranov doubts that KAZ is able to fulfill the assigned order. In his opinion, the probability of this is certainly far from 100%.
Even successful certification [of Tu-214] does not guarantee a trouble-free achievement of this volume. The main obstacle lies not in approvals, but in the industry's ability to transition from piece assembly to mass production.
Aviation expert Andrey Velichko stated that the Tu-214 in 2026 is already morally obsolete due to aluminum wings and early-generation engines. However, the airliner will still be useful for domestic transportation.
