Re-engining the Superjet with French-Russian SaM146 engines to PD-8 may solve the power plant issue, but it will not eliminate the main problem of early series aircraft. This was stated to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by Andrey Patrakov, founder of the flight safety service RunAvia and former employee of Safran.
According to him, the Sukhoi Superjet cannot be considered an aircraft where the only limitation is the engine.
The problem with the Superjet specifically is that not only the engine determines the possibility of continued operation, but other components as well.
Patrakov continued that large-scale re-engining will require not only the installation of the PD-8, but also serious work with other systems of the aircraft. Moreover, the costs may be comparable to creating a new import-substituted aircraft.
According to preliminary estimates, the discussed program for re-engining about 50 aircraft could cost approximately 115 billion rubles, or about 2.3 billion rubles per liner.
