On the night of August 12, due to repairs to the underwater fiber-optic communication line (PVOLS), residents of the Kamchatka Krai will be left without internet, the regional Ministry of Digital Development reported. Under favorable conditions, the entire complex of measures will take up to four days. During the repair, access to the internet, both mobile and home, will be unavailable. Messengers, social networks, and online services will not work.

The repair is needed to strengthen the fiber-optic communication line at Cape Levashova, explained Grigory Bondarenko, Minister of Digital Development of the Kamchatka Krai. The section where the cable exits the shore is actively eroded by water, and without strengthening the coastline, the infrastructure risks failing.

Rostelecom added that a specialized team, including divers, has been engaged for the work. They will have to cut in a new section of cable, bury it, and install two connecting sleeves. The repair schedule will depend on the weather.

The Kamchatka Krai will be switched to a satellite resource. Rostelecom noted that during the restrictions, voice calls and SMS from mobile phones, broadcasting of 21 channels, the operation of banks, ATMs, and large retail chains, cashless payments in chain stores, and cash payments in small retail outlets, gas stations, and the ability to pay for public transport will be maintained. MFCs and medical institutions will also continue to operate.
