A Russian engineer from the Moscow Region has developed a new articulated all-terrain vehicle with a 12×12 configuration, dual wheels, and the ability to operate on soft ground, swamps, and water obstacles. The design is intended for transporting goods and passengers in hard-to-reach areas where conventional wheeled vehicles lose their passability.
The new development features two sections connected by a pivot-coupling mechanism – a front power section and a rear cargo section. This solution allows the machine to maintain flexibility on rough terrain and better conform to the relief during movement.
The front part of the all-terrain vehicle is designed as an 8×8, while the rear is a 12×12. The multi-axle chassis with dual pneumatic wheels increases the contact area with the ground and reduces pressure on the surface.
The machine's frame has an unusual spatial design. The upper part is located above the wheels and is designed to accommodate the cabin, power unit, and cargo platform. The lower hollow part passes between the dual wheels and is used to house transmission components.
The articulation of the two sections provides three degrees of freedom – around the longitudinal, transverse, and vertical axes. This enhances the machine's ability to overcome unevenness, ditches, and complex terrain without losing contact with the surface.
The developer also provided for the possibility of installing a removable track belt on the inner wheels of the rear section, which can further increase passability on particularly soft ground.
