The Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopter is capable of performing tasks to search for and destroy modern stealthy underwater vehicles thanks to a combination of hydroacoustic equipment, search systems, and a wide range of weaponry. The potential of the machine was evaluated by the authors of the "Russkoye Oruzhiye" channel, who noted that its capabilities could also be in demand against small unmanned underwater targets.
The core of the Ka-27PL's search complex remains the "Osminog" system, which includes the "Ros'-V" dipping sonar station, radar equipment, and a network of deployable hydroacoustic buoys. This combination allows the crew to receive data from several sources simultaneously and control significant areas of water.
The helicopter is equipped with AT-1M and UMGT-1 "Orlan" anti-submarine torpedoes, designed to hit underwater targets at depths of up to 500 meters. The armament also includes high-speed APR-2 "Yastreb-M" aircraft rocket-torpedoes, which reduce reaction time after object detection due to their high underwater speed.
For working on various types of targets, the Ka-27PL can use depth charges and means of forming hydroacoustic barriers. At the same time, the main advantage of the helicopter remains its ability to quickly arrive in the search area and use several detection methods simultaneously.
Such technology gains particular importance with the emergence of small unmanned underwater vehicles, which are characterized by low noise and small size. According to experts, the detection of such objects requires the use of active hydroacoustic search modes and the joint work of several carriers.
