The Moscow company "Ingeokom" will prepare a feasibility study (FS) for 200 million rubles to extend the first line of the Yekaterinburg Metro from the "Prospekt Kosmonavtov" station to the projected "Severnaya" station. The contractor was the only participant in the tender whose application met the requirements – two others lacked experience or an FSB license to work with state secrets.

Engineers are tasked with developing at least three routing options and comparing tunnel diameters – 6 and 10 meters. This choice will determine whether one double-track tunnel or two single-track tunnels will be laid underground, what type of tunneling shield will be required, and how much the construction will cost. Additionally, the depth of station foundations, their architectural appearance, and the number and composition of depots will be determined. The deadline for submitting the FS is March 30, 2027.

Alexey Koryukov, Director of the Construction Department of the Yekaterinburg administration, stated that the first results, visible to residents and authorities, will appear as early as September. According to him, the metro's passenger traffic has now reached 160 thousand people per day, which allows the city to apply for federal co-financing for the construction. The development of the FS itself is paid for by the city and regional budgets, and federal funds are planned to be attracted for the construction of the new line.
