Yekaterinburg has begun preparations for a new stage in the development of its metro system. City authorities have announced a tender for the development of a feasibility study for the design and construction of new subway sections, valued at 200.9 million rubles.

The city's capital construction department acted as the client. Funding for the work will be provided by the budgets of Sverdlovsk Oblast and Yekaterinburg.

According to the tender documentation, the contractor must present at least three options for the routes of future metro lines. One of the mandatory scenarios involves extending the existing first line northward – from the "Prospekt Kosmonavtov" station to the prospective "Severnaya" station.

The contractor needs to develop various station placement schemes, identify possible sites for an engineering complex and a depot intended for the maintenance and repair of rolling stock. In addition, the feasibility study must reflect the project implementation stages and assess the need for constructing a transfer station between existing and future lines.

Experts will also assess the need for land acquisition and potential demolition of capital facilities, if required for laying new metro sections. Preliminary calculations for compensation to property owners must also be included in the document.

The cost of constructing the second line of the Yekaterinburg metro is estimated to be in the range of 35 to 40 billion rubles.
