The ZAK-30 "Citadel" anti-aircraft artillery complex was shown for the first time at a firing position. The published footage allowed us to examine one of the most unusual features of the complex – the aerial target detection system, located on a separate remote mast.
This technical solution significantly distinguishes the ZAK-30 "Citadel" from similar short-range air defense systems. The main means of searching for aerial objects are placed outside the combat unit itself, which can expand the possibilities for equipment placement and increase the effectiveness of target detection.
There is no precise data yet on the reasons for choosing such a layout. It is assumed that it is related to the origin of the complex. The ZAK-30 "Citadel" was created on the basis of the BM-30-D "Spitsa" combat module, which was originally designed for other tasks and was not considered a specialized means of combating aerial threats. For this reason, the aerial target detection equipment was probably integrated as a separate remote module at a later stage of development.
Official comments revealing the purpose and advantages of such a scheme have not yet been published.
Earlier, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" reported that the first footage of the combat use of the new ZAK-30 "Citadel" anti-aircraft artillery complex, which automatically intercepts drones, appeared online.
