The South Yakutsk TPP has started the commissioning procedure for its first stage, which includes two Chinese-made gas turbines. Their total capacity is 220 MW. Gazprom Energoholding is actively preparing the power plant for launch to increase the volume of electricity generated in the Far East and provide power supply to the Eastern Polygon of Russian Railways.
The station is being built near the village of Chulman in the Neryungri District of Yakutia. The first stage includes two gas turbine units, and in the second stage, the project will be supplemented by a 110 MW steam turbine. After completion of construction, the power plant will operate on a combined cycle, which will increase fuel efficiency.
Gas turbines for the project are supplied by Chinese manufacturers, while steam power equipment will be manufactured by Russian enterprises. This configuration will combine imported gas turbine technologies with domestic energy equipment.
After the first stage is commissioned, the new capacities will transmit electricity to the United Energy System of the East. The main task of the station will be to meet the growing needs of the railway infrastructure of the Eastern Polygon, where large-scale modernization is underway.
Construction of the South Yakutsk TPP began in 2024. The project is being implemented by Gazprom Energoholding, which unites Gazprom's generating assets, including Mosenergo, OGK-2, MOEK, and TGK-1.
