The fully import-substituted MC-21 airliner successfully completed one of the most important tests in the certification program. The aircraft confirmed the possibility of safe takeoff with one of the PD-14 engines failing, according to designers from PAO "Yakovlev".
The payload at that moment corresponded to 175 passengers. It is in this configuration that the aircraft will be delivered to the first customer, reminded Anatoly Gaidansky, director of the Yakovlev Engineering Center.
We are satisfied with the flight results. They were carried out with a payload corresponding to a two-class layout for 175 seats, which we agreed upon with the customer of the first batch of MC-21.
It should be noted that for any modern aircraft, the ability to continue takeoff after one engine failure is a mandatory certification requirement. Apparently, the PD-14 confirmed its thrust characteristics of 14 tons.
The Irkutsk Aviation Plant is already preparing sites for the production of new aircraft. By the end of 2026, at least three more MC-21s will be built there.
