The Tu-214, 30 years behind Boeing, faces a new problem

Roman Gusarov: the pace of aircraft production at KAZ cannot be increased in a short time

The Kazan Aircraft Plant still has a very long way to go to increase Tu-214 production to at least 5 units per year. Even such a pace would be a colossal breakthrough for the enterprise, said aviation expert Roman Gusarov.

He reminded that the Tu-214 was developed back in the 90s, and its production was based on Soviet technologies. To sharply increase production, it needs to be brought closer to the standards of the MS-21-310 and SJ-100.

If the enterprise manages to reach a production of 5 aircraft per year in the near future, it will already be a colossal breakthrough. More personnel, more modern equipment, and serious modernization of the enterprise will be needed. It's a very difficult path, and it cannot be completed in a short time.

Despite all KAZ's supply problems, the Tu-214 may become the industry's main option for the next five years.

Rostec stated that the Tu-214 still needs to be "brought up to par" after design changes. There is an opinion in the industry that the aircraft has remained in the same condition as it was 30 years ago, unlike its competitors Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
