New Russian airliners to get domestic Wi-Fi straight from the factory: antennas and modems integrated into the design of MC-21 and SJ-100

Airlines will determine the cabin layout themselves

New Russian aircraft MC-21 and SJ-100 will be equipped with satellite internet and an entertainment system using domestic equipment. As OAK head Vadim Badeha told TASS on June 3, this capability is already provided for in the aircraft's design, but the final cabin layout – the presence of screens, Wi-Fi, and seat size – will be determined by the operators themselves.

Badeha clarified that internet access is implemented on a fully Russian hardware base. OAK intends to do everything to make passenger seats as comfortable as possible.

Earlier, on December 13, 2025, "Kommersant", citing experts, described the technological scheme: a low-orbit satellite constellation developed by "Bureau 1440" will transmit a signal to terminals installed on board, with subsequent distribution via Wi-Fi.

As Oleg Panteleev, executive director of "Aviaport", noted, there are no insurmountable technical barriers to integrating such equipment. The only uncertainty remains the as-yet incomplete formation of the orbital constellation itself.
