Virtual "Troika" to become available via NFC: fare payment will be possible by tapping a smartphone

Currently, the project is undergoing laboratory tests; the new technology is entirely developed using Russian software

This year, Moscow public transport will introduce the option to pay for travel with a virtual "Troika" card using an NFC module on a smartphone. This will eliminate the need for passengers to generate a QR code: it will be enough to open the "Metro Moscow" application and tap the phone to the turnstile. This information is reported by RBC, citing the Moscow Department of Transport.

The solution was created entirely using Russian technologies by the Center for Advanced Developments, which houses the country's first ticketing systems laboratory.

Currently, NFC payments are undergoing laboratory tests, while the already available QR code service will remain functional for users of all smartphones.

Launched in 2024, the virtual "Troika" has already proven its demand: over 16 million trips have been made with its help. The transition to the "tap and go" technology will speed up passenger service at turnstiles and become another step towards a seamless digital ticketing system.
