"Teledroid" to go outside the ISS by year-end: TsPK conducts first training with android

Cosmonauts Dubrov and Kikina tested the transportation of the 105 kg robot

Roscosmos cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina conducted a training session in the TsPK hydrolaboratory, practicing the installation of the "Teledroid" robot on the Russian segment of the ISS. According to the Cosmonaut Training Center, this was preparation for a real spacewalk, during which the torso-type android will take its place on the "Nauka" module.

The robot weighs about 105 kg, so the ERA manipulator will be used for its movement. It is assumed that it will deliver Kikina along with the stowage to the installation site, while Dubrov will get there by handrails.

The "Teledroid" itself is equipped with technical vision and can operate in two modes: in copying mode, repeating the movements of the operator in an exoskeleton, and in partially autonomous mode. Its dispatch to the station is scheduled for Q3–Q4 2026.

Unlike its predecessor "Fyodor," which cosmonauts previously called useless in modern conditions, "Teledroid" is being created as a working tool to reduce the physical load on the crew. If the tests are successful, the robot will take over some routine operations on the external surface of the station, leaving tasks requiring decision-making to humans.
