Moscow Metro Ranks Among World Leaders in Construction and Fleet Renewal Rates

By 2030, the share of modern trains will exceed 90%

The Moscow Metro has received its thousandth motor car of the flagship "Moskva-2026" series, assembled at the Metrovagonmash plant (part of TMH) in Mytishchi. According to Izvestia, in 10 years since the launch of the first "Moskva" train, the capital's subway fleet has been renewed by 80%, and the share of modern trains is expected to exceed 90% by 2030.

The "Moskva-2026" differs from its predecessor with updated interior elements, headlights, a "passenger-driver" communication unit, and improved seat ergonomics. It retains wide doorways (1.6 meters, 32% wider than numbered cars), a through passage across the entire train, USB and Type-C connectors, and asynchronous traction motors with regenerative braking.

Capacity has increased to 1490 people, and the noise level has been radically reduced. Each train undergoes a run-in of at least 300 kilometers without issues before being cleared for passenger transport.

In 2026–2027 alone, the plant will supply over 700 cars of this series. Simultaneously, the city's construction sector is accelerating network expansion: this year, the first section of the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line will open, with the Biryulyovskaya branch, the second section of the Troitsk radius, and the "Golyanovo" and "Dostoevskaya" stations under construction. The daily passenger traffic of the metro and MCC has already exceeded 18 million people, and by the end of 2032, the length of the lines will double compared to 2010.

Industry ratings confirm the result: the Moscow Metro holds first place in Europe for the rate of rolling stock renewal and is among the top three worldwide for construction speed.
