After a twenty-year hiatus, the TEP10-314 passenger diesel locomotive has returned to the railway tracks. The work to restore the machine to service was carried out by specialists from the "Murom" division of the "Milorem-Service" company.
The TEP10 series diesel locomotive, nicknamed "Strela" (Arrow) in the depot, was built at the Kharkiv Transport Engineering Plant in the sixties of the last century. These machines became the first mass-produced passenger locomotives with electric transmission in the USSR. The design solutions tested on the TEP10 were later used to create more powerful TEP60 and TEP70 series, which hauled express trains across the country for decades.
The onboard number 314 had been at the Ermolino reserve base for many years. Last year, the management of "Milorem-Service" decided to restore this unique specimen.
In the Murom workshops, engineers and mechanics conducted a complete overhaul: they repaired the diesel generator, replaced worn-out electrical transmission elements, restored the running gear and control systems. According to company representatives, all units passed bench tests after repair, and trial runs under load revealed no issues.
On May 10, 2026, the renovated diesel locomotive independently departed for the railway section. It pulled the tourist train "Ladoga Nerpochka".
