Russia and Tajikistan Plan Adjustments to Armed Forces Modernization Program

Russia and Tajikistan are discussing the possibility of adjustments to the program for modernizing the republic's Armed Forces, under which Russian armaments and military equipment are supplied to the country. This was announced by Russia's Ambassador to the republic, Semyon Grigoriev.

The program for modernizing the Armed Forces of Tajikistan was approved in 2014. According to open sources, Russia supplied T-72B1 tanks, BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-80 and BTR-70M armored personnel carriers, Mi-24 attack helicopters, and Mi-8 military transport helicopters. The total value of deliveries was estimated at $122 million.

Tajikistan also received 122-mm D-30 howitzers, ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns, portable systems, and radar stations for air space control.
