Russian inventor Evgeny Kulikov has filed a patent application for the "DroneBoy" device – a universal system for hitting and neutralizing any UAVs. The development covers a wide range of weapons and means: from shotguns and flare guns to non-lethal weapons (including the "Osa" pistol and its analogues), gas, pneumatic, and spring-powered weapons. The author proposes using buckshot and grape shot cartridges – both standard and specially modified – for shooting at drones.
The peculiarity of the invention is a cartridge with a container for buckshot (or grape shot), which bursts due to the oncoming air flow at a given distance not after 5–6 meters (as with conventional cartridges), but significantly further – up to 50–100 meters. After the burst, a cloud of buckshot forms, hitting the drone. This approach allows for effective shooting at drones from hunting rifles, pistols, and even grenade launchers.
To combat UAVs, it is also proposed to use shrapnel shells with remote fuses, light dazzling of drone video cameras (powerful LEDs and lasers, including those built into weapons), as well as paint and foam sprayers for sealing cameras. Some of these means can be placed directly on interceptor drones (anti-drones) – equipping them with shotguns, grenade launchers, or dazzling devices.
