For the first time in 60 years, Artek has completely updated its water purification system

The new facilities now operate automatically and will help improve the ecological situation of the Black Sea

The famous Artek has undergone a large-scale renovation, which has not happened since the Soviet era. For the first time since the 1960s, the children's center has completely reconstructed its wastewater treatment facilities – the system through which all domestic wastewater passes. This was reported on the Russian government portal with reference to Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

The reconstruction was completed by specialists from the unified customer in the construction sector. The new wastewater treatment line is designed for more than 4.5 thousand cubic meters of water per day.

Now the system operates automatically and allows not only for the safe discharge of treated water into natural reservoirs but also for its use for the technical needs of the center itself. More than 190 buildings and structures of Artek have been connected to the new system.

Before the reconstruction, the wastewater disposal system consisted of an old network of gravity sewers, divided into several catchment basins.

During the work, specialists installed biological treatment units, post-treatment and mechanical dewatering of sludge, as well as a blower station, a chlorination unit, and a block transformer station.

In addition, more than 8.5 thousand meters of water supply and sanitation networks, as well as over 12 thousand meters of external cable lines, have been completely updated.

The government noted that the modernization of Artek is being carried out on the instructions of the President of Russia and is aimed at creating modern conditions for children's recreation and development. Currently, 20 facilities have already been put into operation at the children's center, and four more are in a high state of readiness.

Previously, an Innovation Educational Technologies Center with an area of more than 27 thousand square meters was also built on the territory of Artek. It features modern classrooms, workshops, an amphitheater, artistic and rehearsal halls, and a universal hall for 700 seats. More than a thousand children will be able to study there simultaneously.
