All flights canceled at Bodaybo Airport: runway washed out by meltwater

On April 27, the air hub cannot receive or dispatch aircraft; flights are expected to resume the next day

Air traffic at Bodaybo Airport was suspended on April 27, 2026. Flights have been canceled. The reason was the washout of the runway due to meltwater.

According to the online scoreboard, five IrAero flights have been canceled: three were supposed to arrive from Irkutsk, and two more were to depart there.

The airport information desk reported that the runway became unusable due to meltwater. They plan to resume receiving and dispatching aircraft only on April 28.

Meanwhile, the issue of airport infrastructure is being discussed. The construction of a new air hub in Bodaybo actually began in December 2023. Its cost was estimated at 7.4 billion rubles.

The project envisioned the creation of an airport capable of accommodating medium-haul aircraft, including the Il-114 and Sukhoi Superjet-100. The contractor was the Moscow-based company Rotek, which was tasked with building all necessary facilities for year-round transport accessibility to the city.

According to the plan, the runway length should be 2.1 thousand meters, and the width 35 meters. The apron was designed for simultaneous parking of six aircraft: one SSJ-100, three Il-114s, an An-24, an ATR-42, and two Mi-8 helicopters.

It was predicted that by 2035, the airport would be able to handle up to four takeoffs and landings per hour.

However, in July 2024, the contractor Rotek announced the termination of the contract. In the spring of 2025, the authorities of the Irkutsk region announced that a new tender for the airport's reconstruction might be announced in 2026.

The construction of a new airport is also planned in Irkutsk.
