At the Zvezda shipbuilding complex, the issue of building three additional tankers for operations on the Northern Sea Route is being worked out. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev.
According to Trutnev, Zvezda's current order portfolio provides for the construction of 26 transport fleet vessels for cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route; however, to support major extraction projects by 2030, at least 50 more such vessels will be required. The construction of three more tankers, with delivery scheduled for 2029, is currently at the planning stage. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that existing capacities are insufficient, and there are plans to create new shipyards in the Far East and modernize the existing Severnaya Verf in St. Petersburg.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov recalled that in December 2025, Sovcomflot received the first Russian tanker for transporting liquefied natural gas, built at Zvezda. It became the lead vessel in the series for the Arctic LNG 2 project. At the same time, work is underway to create a domestically produced gas carrier vessel and Russian shipboard equipment.
