A key factor in the implementation of the Russian TVS-2MS aircraft in South Africa will be the issue of certification and approval of the aircraft for operation through the local aviation regulator. The details of the process were reported by the Aviatsiya Rossii portal.
Any form of assembly of the TVS-2MS within the country directly depends on the exact framework under which the modernized An-2 is recognized — through full national certification or validation of the existing certificate.
Editor-in-chief of the portal Andrei Velichko explained that the viability of the TVS-2MS depends on this decision, as the aircraft ultimately found no use in Russia amid the launch into production of the LMS-901 "Baikal".
The framework for recognition of an aircraft type effectively determines the entire structure of the future project — from the timeline for the start of operations to the possibility of production localization and the creation of service infrastructure.
Without resolving the certification issue, neither the deployment of TVS-2MS assembly in South Africa nor the transition to stable commercial operation is possible.
The TVS-2MS will also begin to be supplied to Mongolia. An attempt to launch production in Saratov Region ended without result; in Russia, priority was given to other platforms, including the LMS-901 "Baikal".
