Rosmorport has started developing a domestic maritime transport monitoring system. The platform, under the working title "RMP-Traffic," should allow real-time viewing of a ship's location, the cargo it is carrying, and the port it is heading to. This was announced by the head of the department, Sergey Pylin, during a speech at the transport and logistics forum in St. Petersburg.
The new system is conceived as a complete analogue of the foreign MarineTraffic service, which is currently used to track ships around the world. The Russian development will cover all seaports in the country and integrate data from the automatic identification system.
The technical specifications for the project have already been prepared. In the near future, Rosmorport plans to announce a tender to select a contractor to create the platform. However, the details of access to the service—whether it will be open or require a subscription—have not yet been determined.
The launch dates for "RMP-Traffic" have not been announced. According to Pylin, the development is being carried out from scratch, and modern requirements for the introduction of artificial intelligence elements further complicate and increase the cost of the process. Nevertheless, the creation of its own ship tracking system is seen as an important step towards technological independence in the field of maritime logistics.
