At the "Russian Shipbuilding" conference, Dmitry Mirny, Deputy General Director for Technical Development and Project Management at TMH-Energetic Solutions, proposed using D200 family engines instead of the Wärtsilä 6L20 units popular in the maritime fleet.
According to him, the D200 engine was created back in 2015 as part of a federal target program, but did not receive a serial order at that time. Today, this development is being considered as a ready-made solution for import substitution in shipbuilding and ship repair. The key advantage is the possibility of "pin-to-pin" installation: the new unit replaces the Finnish engine without reconfiguring the engine room and making serious changes to the ship's design.
The representative of the holding noted that the D200 is suitable for both new orders and for the modernization of the existing fleet. Among the potential sites for implementation are RSD59 project dry cargo ships. Despite the fact that the issue of localizing power plants for this series has been raised since 2022, in practice, ships continue to be equipped with imported, including Chinese, engines.
