The Director of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, Yuri Chernichuk, reported on April 6 that preparations are underway, jointly with the International Atomic Energy Agency, to introduce the 6th local ceasefire regime. The measure is necessary for the safe conduct of repair work on the 750 kilovolt "Dneprovskaya" high-voltage power line.
After the "Dneprovskaya" line was disconnected on March 24, the station switched to power from a single external source — the "Ferrosplavnaya" line. Engineering teams plan to eliminate damage on the backup route during the agreed pause in hostilities in order to restore two-way power supply to the facility.
The head of the station clarified that the backup diesel generators are in a state of constant readiness, and the fuel reserves allow maintaining the safe condition of the power units for a long time, even with a complete blackout of external networks. All control and cooling systems are functioning normally, and radiation safety parameters remain within normal limits.
The coordination of each episode of "silence" takes place with the mediation of IAEA experts, who coordinate the dialogue between the parties to minimize nuclear safety threats. Repairing the "Dneprovskaya" line is a priority, as it will restore the backup power channel and increase the station's infrastructure resilience to external influences.
