Rybinsk-based "UEC-Saturn" (part of the United Engine Corporation of "Rostec") has filed a lawsuit against the French companies Safran, Safran Aircraft Engines, and Snecma Participations to recover debt amounting to $30.4 million and €461.1 thousand. The application was registered in the Arbitration Court of the Yaroslavl Region in early March, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 13, 2026.
In parallel with the lawsuit, the company petitioned for interim measures—the seizure of the defendants' assets. The court granted the request: restrictions were placed on 100% of Safran Aircraft Engines' stake in Smartinvest LLC, share packages in Smartec JSC (70%) and Volgaero CJSC (24.75%), two buildings in the center of Moscow, production equipment, as well as 61% of Poluevo-Invest CJSC, owned by Snecma Participations.
The total value of the frozen assets is estimated at 1.3 billion rubles, which is less than the ruble equivalent of the claims (more than 2.3 billion rubles). The plaintiff also obtained a ban on any transactions with these assets until the completion of the proceedings.
The conflict is related to the activities of the joint venture PowerJet, created by "UEC-Saturn" and Safran to produce SaM146 engines for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional airliner. Under the terms of the cooperation, the French side was responsible for the "hot" section of the power plant (high-pressure compressor, combustion chamber, high-pressure turbine), the Russian side—for the "cold" section (fan and low-pressure turbine). The final assembly of engines was carried out at the "UEC-Saturn" site in Rybinsk.
After the introduction of Western sanctions in 2022, the French partners ceased participation in the project, and the production of SaM146 was stopped. This created difficulties in servicing the existing SSJ100 fleet.
