Geneva Instead of Arms Race: Russia and the US Started Working on a Nuclear Pact

China May Join the Deal

Delegations from Russia and the US held a meeting in Geneva on February 23 to discuss a new version of the nuclear deterrence treaty, Reuters reported.

According to reports, the American side will also meet with China on February 24 to negotiate a new multilateral treaty on nuclear arms control.

US President Donald Trump proposed in early February to develop an improved strategic arms treaty to replace the expired START-3.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized that Russia is ready to discuss security issues within the framework of the strategic stability dialogue and expects the same from the United States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also added that the development of the nuclear triad remains a priority for the authorities — it ensures the balance of power in the world and serves as a guarantee of the country's security.
