UEC engineers improved the design of critical components of the PS-90A aircraft engine

The effectiveness of the unit upgrade was proven at a test bench

Specialists from "ODK-Permskie motory" and "ODK-Aviadvigatel" developed a new design for the mounting brackets of the fuel manifolds of the PS-90A aircraft engine. The introduction of the development into serial production made it possible to improve the operation of the powerplant.

ODK explained that during prolonged operation of the PS-90A, wear occurred in the parts of the movable joints of the fuel manifolds of the combustion chamber — brackets, spherical bushings, and blocks. This leads to increased clearances and higher vibration stresses in the pipelines, which may affect the operation of the aircraft engine.

The engineers created a new optimal design that takes into account the properties of metal elements: flexibility, elasticity, and the ability to suppress unwanted vibrations. Its effectiveness was analyzed through comparative calculations, research, and bench tests.

After successful controlled operation on serial engines, the new design has been introduced into serial production and will be used in the repair of PS-90A and PS-90A-76 engines. A patent has also been obtained for the development.
