MC-21 finally got rid of imported composites

Rosaviatsia issued PJSC "Yakovlev" a type certificate for the replacement of materials in the keel caisson and stabilizers

Rosaviatsia presented PJSC "Yakovlev" with approval of the main change to the type certificate MC-21-310, providing for the import substitution of composite materials in the power elements of the keel caissons and stabilizers. This was announced by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

Work on the approval was completed in December 2025. The head of Rosaviatsia, Dmitry Yadrov, stated that the domestic school of materials science has once again demonstrated its readiness to develop and supply the aviation industry with its own world-class composites.

Their reliability for use in the MC-21 design is confirmed by calculations, modeling, and full-scale tests with the participation of leading scientific and certification centers in our country.

The serial production of new keel caissons and stabilizers from composite materials is carried out by the company "KAPO-Composite". The General Director of UAC, Vadim Badeha, emphasized that now MC-21 is equipped with domestic materials that have confirmed their reliability.

A large cooperation of scientific centers and production enterprises was involved in the work. I would like to thank all colleagues who contributed to the creation of an entire sub-industry of composite aircraft construction.
Vadim Badeha, head of UAC

UAC added that PJSC "Yakovlev" is working on the certification of the aircraft with new domestic equipment.

Executive Director of the AviaPort agency, aviation expert Oleg Panteleev, explained to "Pervy Technichesky" that the Russian industry, when creating components for the MC-21, had to step 30 years ahead. He refuted the opinion that the overweight of the aircraft is only related to composite materials after import substitution.
